From the Farmer – James (Pt. 1)

With our blog being called “From the Farm”, it was only a matter of time before we gave our farmers their chance to sound off. It’s only fair, right? Mr James was one of the first to step up to the mark, so let’s see what he had to say to our, frankly Paxmanian (if that’s even an adjective, which it probably isn’t…) line of questioning:

Have you named any of your cows?
They all have names, honestly! Not many people know this, but naming them is actually a requirement of their breeding. That said, they do all have quite distinct personalities, so naming them just feels right. It’d be rude not to!
What’s the weirdest or funniest thing you’ve ever seen down on the Farm?
Once you’ve been farming for as long as I have… You’ve seen it all. Let’s leave it at that!
If you weren’t a farmer, what would you be?
I doubt this is the answer you’d be expecting, but I’d say air traffic controller. I really like the idea of running a tight ship, and being trusted to direct planes in and out of airports. It’d be intense, of course, but I think the reward would more than make up for that.
What got you into farming in the first place?
We’ve been farming for four generations, so why would we stop now?!
At Lancashire Farm, we’re all about dairying to be different. What do you do in your day-to-day farming that other farmers don’t do?
For me, farming is all about attention to detail. It’s only by focussing on all of the small things that you can really improve the bigger picture – so that’s exactly what I do.
Picture of favourite cow?
Funny you should ask… On the left you’ll see Aida, our first place prize winning cow!
